What is a tip calculator?

A tip calculator helps you quickly determine how much to tip at restaurants, cafés, and other service establishments. Enter the bill amount, select a tip percentage, and specify the number of people to see the exact amount each person should pay.

How to calculate a tip?

The tip is calculated using the formula: Tip = Bill amount × (Tip percentage / 100). The total: Total = Bill amount + Tip. For example, if the bill is €50 and you want to tip 15%: 50 × 0.15 = €7.50, total = €57.50.

How much should you tip?

Common tip percentages vary by situation:

  • 10% — minimum standard tip for acceptable service
  • 15% — average tip for good service
  • 20% — tip for excellent service
  • 25% — tip for exceptional service

How to split the bill between multiple people?

When splitting a bill, the total including the tip is divided equally among all people. The formula: Per person = (Bill + Tip) / Number of people. For example, if 4 people share a €100 bill with a 20% tip: total = €120, each person pays €30.

Tip calculation examples

Example 1: Bill is €80, tip is 15%. Tip = 80 × 0.15 = €12. Total = €92.

Example 2: Bill is €120 split between 3 people, tip is 20%. Total = €144. Each person pays €48, of which €8 is the tip.
